Ryan Leaf doubles down on ‘College GameDay’ criticism

Ryan Leaf doubled down on his criticism of ESPN’s “College GameDay” this week after comments were made on the popular pregame show about Washington State vs. Oregon State being the “Nobody Wants Us” Bowl.

Last week, Washington State’s clash with Oregon State was one of the games featured in the picks segment. They are the only two programs which have not joined a new conference for 2024.

Corso was commenting on the game in which Washington State coach Jake Dickert interpreted Corso’s comment as the “No One Watches Bowl.” However, Corso actually called it the “Nobody Wants Us Bowl” because of their lack of a landing spot after the season.

Leaf backed Dickert’s comments.

“And College GameDay is supposed to be a celebration of college football,” Leaf posted on social media. “Instead, they choose to make it a big joke, and everyone on the panel enables it. Just a bunch of windsocks.”

Kirk Herbstreit defended Corso’s comments on social media.

On Thursday, Leaf explained his perspective on the issue.

“It is the ‘No One Wants Us Bowl’ but to watch Lee say it and go (crying face) and McAfee laughing and make it a joke, that’s the problem,” he said. “You had an opportunity to celebrate two teams that are going through incredible adversity. Both those coaching staff have these 18-to-23 year-olds that bought into something. They go out and play their tails off. They’re both ranked. ‘No One Wants Us Bowl.’ That’s how you celebrate them instead of making it a joke.”
